Uncovering the Universe’s Symphony: Listening to Black Holes Merging throughout the Cosmos

A half-decade ago, astronomers discovered ripples in the fabric of spacetime known as gravitational waves, confirming a century-old prediction by Einstein. Since then, dozens of gravitational-wave events have been observed, encoding information about some of the most extreme gravitational events across the cosmos. In this talk, I’ll discuss how gravitational waves are detected, and how this phenomenon is providing astronomers with a new tool for understanding exotic objects in the universe such as black holes and neutron stars.
