The famous Danish storyteller Hans Christian Anderson said, “When words fail, music speaks.”
At the Lakeview Orchestra concert given on Tuesday, Feb. 10, music spoke eloquently, and my words fail to describe how these local musicians beautifully and expressively performed three pieces on the program by composers Franz Liszt, Richard Strauss and Jean Sibelius.
The Strauss selection, “Four Last Songs,” was sung by the dramatic coloratura Alexis Magaro who has performed throughout Europe, having made appearances in the U.S. on television, radio, and the opera stage.
Again, tickets were a steal at $15 online, $20 at the door (students are free), plenty of free parking in the lot adjacent to Lake View High School and on Ashland Avenue.
This is truly a premier orchestra we northsiders are fortunate to have at our doorstep. Three more concerts coming up:
- March 10: Debussy and Schumann
- April 21: “Carmina Burana“
- June 2: Audience Choice: Bruckner
