Toys for Tots

The holidays will be different this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep some of our favorite traditions. One favorite is the Holiday Pot Luck and the Toys for Tots collection. Although the Pot Luck can’t take place, we can still make many Chicagoland children happy by donating a new, unwrapped toy. We usually focus on gifts for boys aged 10-14, but that is not a requirement.

Here are some neighborhood companies that are serving as drop off centers.
Please note, the deadline is December 10 for businesses.

Chicago Board of Elections Voter Information

Early Voting Option prior to November 3, 2020

Here’s an option for people who feel unsafe about voting in person, but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a “mail-in” ballot in a timely fashion:

  1. Apply on line now for a mail-in ballot at ChicagoElections.gov/votebymail
  2. Starting on October 14 there will be Secured Drop Boxes at all Early Voting locations.
  3. After you fill in your ballot you should sign and seal the envelope.
  4. You can then bring it to the Early Voting location.
  5. If you applied online to Vote By Mail, you’ll later get an email confirming your ballot has been received. At a later time you will be informed that it has been accepted and notified if there are any problems.
  6. The ballots at Early Voting locations are transported (under chain of custody protocol) to the Board of Elections facility.
  7. List of locations and hours for Early Voting will be available in September at ChicagoElections.gov/EarlyVoting.

Forward Chicago Presents Meet Our Members: Dara Salk and Tana Durnbaugh

Meet Our Members

Forward Chicago Presents has changed to the first and third Thursdays! As we rework our lives, so does Forward Chicago. We are changing our weekly programming to biweekly. We will still be offering informational talks on varying subjects related to staying healthy and engaged, and we are also introducing a new segment:

Join us as we begin a new line of programming and we learn from our wonderful members. We will start with Dara Salk and Tana Durnbaugh, as they share a bit about themselves. We all have something to teach, and we all can stand to learn a bit about our members. Please let us know if you want to be included.

We’d also like you to join us in learning more about NPR’s StoryCorps in addition to meeting our members. Rocio Santos from the Chicago StoryCorps office will join us and introduce the concept of storytelling and some ways we can tell our stories and how they can help.

There are many ways for us to join thousands of others who have recorded their stories.

It could be for you, your family or the public; storytelling is timeless.
